How Did You Get Started In Health And Fitness?

I got started in the Health and fitness Industry when I left the British Army in December 2009! It just kind of fell into my lap as I’ve always loved going to the gym and was talked into competing back in 2010. From then on I was hooked!

What Is Your Best Accomplishment So Far?

My best accomplishment so far is Winning the British Novice Musclemania Title back in 2010. My proudest moment was being signed by my sponsors Grenade Thermo Detonator.

What Is It Like Competing?

Competing is the best feeling in the world! You have sacrificed, dieted and trained for months on end and you finally get to show all your hard work and efforts off to a crowd! There’s no better feeling especially if you win!

What Workout Routine Has Worked Best For You?

I don’t follow any specific routine in the gym, as I mix it up all the time! I will however give you a snippet of my last quads session.

Warm Up
Barbell Squats – 3 sets of 12 reps with 60kg
Barbell Squats – 8 Sets of 12 Repetitions with 100kg
Leg Extension (Quintuple Drop Sets) – 90kg till failure, 80kg till failure, 70kg till failure, 60kg till failure, 50kg till failure (minimum reps on each set 15 reps)
Lunges (50lb) – 4 sets of 8 reps on each leg with 1 min rest inbetween.
Leg Press FST7 – (Fascia Stretch Training)
150kg Leg Press Machine -12 repetitions for 7 Sets (30 seconds rest inbetween flexing the quad muscles for the entire rest period).

DEADLIFTS – Great for all round strength

REAR SHOULDER PUSH PRESS – Shoulders are my strongest bodypart and I can Push Press 130kg doing this

QUADS – Anything that hammers my quads! I love the pump feeling in you legs

Favourite Form Of Cardio?

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) as it’s the most effective for cutting up.

What Is Your Diet Like?

Here is my current diet

Its a Carb Cycling one. This is a great diet when wanting to get shredded and maintain maximum amounts of size and muscle. The way I will be doing this diet is as follows:

Day 2 – 153g Carb Day
Day 3 – 56g Carb Day

What Are Your Tips For Success?

Work hard! Stay Focused and your time will come! Always stand out from the crowd as this is what gets you noticed and my biggest advice for beginners is to research, read and experiment with diet and training! Everyone is different and what works for one person might not exactly work for you so try a few things out and don’t be afraid to ask questions

What Is The Best Advice You Have Ever Been Given?

If you really want something in life go out and get it! Everyone has the same opportunities and its upto you and only you to make them happen!

Did You Make Any Mistakes When You First Started Out?

Like all teenagers, all you care about is your “T-Shirt” Muscles so I was constantly hitting the dumbbell curls and bench, I also knew nothing about diet until I left the Army.

Your Best Tips To Getting Into Contest Shape/Losing Those Last Few Pounds?

Have a goal and stick to it and don’t make drastic changes every week! Small changes to diet and training over a prolonged period of time makes champions!

I think it has been drilled into me from 7 years military service! Ive carried those standards and values through to my fitness career

Favourite Fitness Models? Inspirations?

Arnold (Schwarzenegger) of Course and the Aesthetics of Frank Zane!

Favourite Quote?

The last three or four reps is what makes the muscle grow. This area of pain divides
the champion from someone else who is not a champion. That’s what most people
lack, having the guts to go on and just say they’ll go through the pain no matter what
happens
– Arnold Schwarzenegger

  • “everyone has the same opportunities”
if only this was true. im not being a martyr, but that statement is simply not true.

  • Completely agree with Dale: not everyone does have the same opportunities or even access to the same resources. Often fitness experts make many sweeping ‘philosophical’ statements because it is the mantras that suit them and their lives but don’t realise it isn’t automatically the same for everyeone else.
